Head in the Clouds on Mount St. Piran

The weather has been pretty miserable lately here in the mountains. Which is a good thing, because there were a few wildfires mother nature started that she needed to put out.

I decided to throw a rain coat on and take a hike up the Little Beehive beside Lake Louise. I like to hike in that area in the rain because seeing all the tourists without rain gear makes me feel warm and comfy..

I thought it would start coming down hard at some point, but when I had made it to the top of Little Beehive I still wasn't soaked, so I decided to continue to the summit of Mt St. Piran.

About 3/4 of the way up it started to rain pretty heavily, but luckily it was right as I was passing an awesome rock cave complete with wildflowers and the perfect view! Not a bad place to hang out. I forgot I was hauling my tripod up with me so I proceeded to pile some rocks to set my camera on for a time lapse.

Unfortunately by the time I reached the summit the clouds had filled in all around me. With no sign of the weather getting any better, and many signs of it getting worse, I decided to begin the descent.

I didn't notice until after, but you can see my white van in the parking lot in the middle of the time lapse image.

Here is the time lapse and a few photos from the day!

Once the worst of the rain passed, I ran out for a quick selfie, before replacing my rain coat, and continuing on to the summit.

Here's the cave where I waited out the rain. You can see my rock pile I used for a 'tripod'.

The trail winds through a beautiful Larch forest. I look forward to doing this hike in the fall when all the larch have turned a vibrant yellow.

Wild flowers carpet the slopes of Mt. St. Piran, high above Lake Louise.

Back at the Lake around 8pm. What a great afternoon hike.. Sure beats sitting around at home staying dry!
